CHECK-IN University Commons, lower level
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Required: All new first-year students come to the University Commons as soon as you arrive on campus. You will receive orientation information and a post office box assignment, have your health records checked, and meet other important people who will assist in your transition to EMU.

If there is an emergency and you cannot check-in during this time, please call the student life office at (540) 432-4135.

RESIDENCE HALLS OPEN
9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
You may pick up your key from the residence director in your residence hall’s main lobby. Your community advisor will help you check-in to your room.

IDENTIFICATION CARDS
Learning Resources lower level of library
9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Stop by Learning Resources, on the ground floor of the library, to have your ID card made. Another opportunity is available on Monday, but do it today if possible to avoid hassles in the cafeteria line. Every student is required to have an ID card. Pick up your completed ID at the circulation desk on the main floor of the library.

COMPUTER HOOK-UP
Help Desk, Campus Center first floor
9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Here at EMU we offer our students the opportunity to connect their personal computers to our school network for Internet and e-mail access in their residence hall rooms. Instructions for connecting to the network are posted around campus. You will not need to bring your computer to the information systems department for configuration. If you have any problems, please come by or call the information systems help desk at 432-HELP (432-4357).

LUNCH Dining Hall

11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
All first-year students are allowed to eat at no charge. Parents and family will need to buy their lunch.

CAMPUS TOUR
University Commons, second floor
1 p.m.
Want to be more familiar with campus? Come to the check-in area to meet a representative from the admissions office for a tour.

COURSE SELECTION FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

All first-year students who have not selected classes for the fall semester will do so at this time.

HONORS RECEPTION
Seminary second floor lounge
1 - 2 p.m.
Honors students are invited to a reception held in the fellowship area outside of Martin Chapel in the seminary building.

PERKINS LOAN MEETING
Science Center 106
2:30 p.m. - 3:20 p.m.
All Perkins Loan recipients will meet with EMU representatives from the business office.

PARENTS MEET WITH TRANSITIONS FACULTY

Parents will meet with “College Writing for Transitions” faculty to learn how EMU will assist their students in the move from high school to college

STUDENTS MEET WITH WRITING FACULTY

Students will meet with “College Writing for Transitions” faculty and student leaders to learn how they will be challenged and supported in their growth at EMU.

CAMPUS LIVING

Students and parents will meet with the residence life staff of their hall for a brief informational and get-acquainted meeting.

COMMUTER STUDENT MEETING

Commuter students and parents will meet with upper-class students who have been through the commuting experience in previous years at EMU

SUPPER WITH PRESIDENT SWARTZENDRUBER
University Commons Gym
5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
President Swartzendruber will greet new students and their families. Orientation group leaders, faculty and staff will also join in the conversation. There is no charge for new students. Tickets for parents, family members and guests can be purchased in the supper line.

WELCOME RECEPTION
University Commons, lower level
6:30 - 7:15 p.m.
President Loren Swartzendruber and members of the EMU faculty invite all new students and parents to a dessert reception in the first floor lobby of the University Commons. Don’t miss this opportunity to be welcomed personally to EMU by the president and members of the academic departments.
